Frightmares!

It took a lot of coercion, but we were finally able to talk Taylee into going to Frightmares with us. Turns out it wasn't so scary after all! Just like we promised....
Unfortunately, we got rained out after just a couple of hours. But we did get to visit all the funhouses!

Funny girl in the "spook" alley

Too ironic not to post. For being just plain ornery!

Day Four Cozumel and Day Five At Sea

We cruised into Cozumel after our day in Belize. The early ATV tour was booked, so we weren't due to head out until 12:30. In the meantime, we headed into downtown Cozumel and found ourselves at Margaritaville. The kids (and adults too!) had a good old time with this pirate. He made a few dollars in tips for his troubles, and we have some fun memories of our day in Cozumel.
Aden and Taylee with Captain Jack
Mom took a photo op with the pirate too!

Then Great Grandpa Gene took control!!

We had a fun balloon animal artist visit our table too!

Even Kent got in on the fun!

After our morning in town we made our way to the Tour meeting spot. Which, as it turns out, was NOT at Margaritaville as we thought. Oops!
Somewhere between Margaritaville and the ATV Tour, Great Grandpa decided it would be better if he sat this one out. We were bummed, but in hindsight, it was probably a good decision. The road was pretty rough, and we were joined by some hooligans on our tour. I was just glad Taylee was safely on the back of Kent's ATV. He plays the part of responsible dad quite well. :)

For our last day on the cruise, we were at sea again. It was time to do all the things on our cruise bucket list. And Flow Rider was at the top!
Kent rocked it!

I was a little less successful, but had a good time anyways!
Kent climbed the rock wall too
And of course the ice sculptures, and midnight buffet! Which they moved to lunch. Funny.
Some of the cool fruit carvings at the noontime buffet.

We ended up having a darn fun vacation, and some great family bonding time. We are so glad we had the chance to go!

Day 2 & 3 -- Belize

Our second day of vacation was spent at Sea. Not a bad place to be when the temps are in the 80's and the sun is shining! We spent lots of time swimming in the many pools, went on a family scavenger hunt, ate lots of food, and made "Pets at Sea!" Late in the afternoon, we had the pleasure of watching the Broncos vs Colts game from the deck of the cruise ship, on the huge screen over the pool. That dumb team that we are foolish enough to love tried to spoil our vacation by turning in their first loss of the season, but we rallied and kicked up our efforts at fun! A big family dinner is a great way to take your mind off football.
The pool area on the ship is huge, and somehow didn't feel as busy as this photo makes it look!
Taylee and Aden with their "Pets at Sea!" Butter-Fly, and Lily-Pad

This was before the game went wrong... when we were still having a good time!
Our second day of the cruise took us to Belize! This was a first for all the members of our group. We were determined to use the opportunity to snorkel the barrier reef around Belize. We went through a lot of reviews and options before our trip, trying to find a tour that would allow us to snorkel the barrier reef, but not with 140 other people. Well, we accomplished our mission! In fact, after a loooong delay in tendering from the cruise ship (that's another story for another day...), we were joined only by one other family on our tour. Sadly, our little group only garnered a 20 foot dinghy, rather than the 40 foot covered boat that was advertised on the website we booked from.
So, we headed out across the open sea in our dinghy, with our lives in our hands, and prayed for nice weather. We were in luck! We made it safely to the reef, a 40 minute ride from the coast of Belize.
Open seas!
Before we arrived at the reef, our tour guides took us to "pick up some sardines" at a little shack on the beach. They also gave us the opportunity to feed the fish. Well these were no minnows! When we fed them, we risked losing life and limb. They were HUGE! I lost a fingernail, and Nana got a little surface wound, but it's all fun and games...I guess.
Kent's dangling a little bait! And I don't mean his hand!

Mom and I both had the same reaction... Whoa!!!
The snorkeling at the reef was pretty fantastic...almost as good as we hoped! Taylee even jumped in and swam along for awhile, but, in the end, her fear took over and she ended up swimming back to the boat. We were still proud that she went swimming in the deep ocean water with us.
After our snorkeling we took a ride over to our next "fun" experience... swimming with the sharks! Ummm, no thanks. But Kent always wants to experience everything there is to offer, so in he went!
The sharks that we had the "opportunity" to swim with!
Funny, Kent was the only one who chose to swim with the sharks!
After our snorkel and swim experience, they took us back to "the split," an area on Caye Caulker, which is an island about 20 miles off the coast of Belize. We explored a little, got some lunch, and Taylee found "treasures" in the sand. (Those treasures later turned up with maggots inside, but that's okay, right?!) After our delay getting off the ship that morning, we had to rush back to the ship a bit early, but we made it work.

Kathy's Crusade!

Earlier this year, we found out that my mom's cousin Kathy (whom I had never met before), was diagnosed with ALS. She is a loving, kind woman, and had a wish to have all her family come together in celebration for her 60th birthday. Thus, the idea for Kathy's Crusade was born!
Kathy's Crusade was a family reunion/Caribbean Cruise (awesome, right?!). We flew to Fort Lauderdale just 5 days after we got home from the wedding in Las Vegas. A crazy week for sure!
We had a total of 48 Cohrs and Reed family members!
The Promenade
H2O Splash Zone! A favorite for Taylee and Aden

Our itty bitty little cabin. A fun little place to call home for 5 days.

Independence of the Seas
Aden and Taylee getting to know the ship!
Cheers!

Frightfully Romantic!

My cousin Garrett married his lovely fiance Michelle on Halloween this year... in Las Vegas!
What a perfect excuse for a fun little road trip down to the City that never sleeps!!! We did our best to help the city live up to its name by staying out super late (for us old people :) on our first night in Vegas. We were, of course, trying to show our bachelor and bachelorette a good time!
The fellas took Garrett out to Fremont Street to find some live entertainment... and a whole lot more!

The lovely ladies went to a Zombie Burlesque show at Planet Hollywood. It was a darn funny show!

And we did a whole lot of this too!

We definitely showed Michelle a good time! Too bad she lived to regret those jello shots. :(
On Halloween we were on a recovery mission from the night before, and also in full wedding prep/explore Vegas with the kids. A tough combo to be sure!
Taylee quickly bonded with her new friend Noah, which worked out perfectly, as we left her with Noah and Aden while we partied hardy. Safely in our Condo, of course.
The wedding itself was beautiful, and hopefully everything Michelle dreamed of.
The Happy Couple
We did make a solid effort at trick or treating after the wedding was over. The kids were tired, but had a pretty darn good time anyhow.
The Trick or Treatin' Bunch! Aden, Xavier, Taylee, and Noah

And this is what happens at dinner after a late night and a very long day!

Barcelona

This has been a pretty tremendous year for us travel wise. After starting the year with our big anniversary trip to Costa Rica in March, we had several different opportunities come our way. Instead of wisely choosing between them, we chose to do all of them! Our pocketbook is hurting a little, but our passports sure like the attention.
In September, we had the opportunity to go to Barcelona with Kent's brother Mark and his wife Amber, as well as our mutual friends Brian and Kim, and Matt and Raquel. For a few days we were also joined by Amber's brother Aaron and his wife Michelle. It was a fun little getaway, and notably Kents first trip to Europe!
I will let the pictures tell the story....
We found some fantastic sangria in Barcelona! And it was almost always served in these humungous glasses, with gigantic ice cubes!

Beautiful Barceloneta Beach

The Barcelona Arc de Triomf. Not to be confused with the Parisian Arc De Triomphe.
Sagrada Familia, the most famous structure designed by architect Antoni Gaudi. His work influenced the architectural style of much of the city. He designed this church in the 1800's, and work continues on it today, even as tourists explore the building and churchgoers worship. Completion of the church is expected around 2030.

Kent and I in front of Sagrada Familia

Michelle and Amber, in My Bar!

Walking down the streets of old town Barcelona we found modern graffiti marking the centuries old buildings.
One of our days in Barcelona we took the train northwest of the city to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey. The monastery is very unique in that it is situated high up on a mountainside, accessible only by cable car.
The Central Square at Montserrat Monestary.

The cable car you ride to get to the monastery.
The BEST White Russians EvEr!!
Oddly enough... The BEST Pina Colada's EVER!
Me and my fella, hiking around the monastery
Barceloneta Beach again!
Fountain of Mountjuic -- Kent and I made this our Grand Finale on the final night of the trip. It was Spectacular!
Fountain of Mountjuic
The beautiful fountain show at Mountjuic
Cable Car at Montsterrat
Riding the Hop On Hop Off Tour Bus

A deli like we just don't see here in America (and I'm kind of glad...Those ham hocks looked pretty nasty)
This is a cemetery in Barcelona. It was beautiful!
The most interesting thing... McDonalds in Spain serves Beer!
And we stumbled upon this cool place. Ocana Bar. Matt and Brian were in Heaven!!
Cheers! A fantastic little Irish Pub in downtown Barcelona, home of the Best White Russian  Ever!

Our local bar, Andrea's. Where we ended every night. Andrea and her minions sure poured a strong drink! And It sure seems like we have a lot of bar pictures. LOL.

The Whole Gang, hiking up at Montserrat. But we are all looking up at the girl who almost fell down the mountainside. :(
Rainy Day in Barcelona
Mercado de La Boqueria
Me and Lil' Kim inside Sagrada Familia
I just couldn't get over the juxtaposition of the old town garage fronts, older than anything we have in America, painted with Modern graffiti. A bummer really.
La Pedrera - a Residential building designed by Gaudi

Me, Amber, and Raquel, waiting for the Metro. Its hot down there!!

Torre Agbar -- We had a fantastic view from our hotel room at the Silken Diagonal.
All in all, we had a pretty amazing trip. We headed out with no idea what to expect, and found a cultural delight in Barcelona. The interesting contrast of a modern city and old world European charm was pretty amazing. I'd definitely love to visit again someday!
